This research develops improved methods for exploring and visualising global country-level data over time. By identifying patterns, trends, unusual observations and differences between countries, and addressing missing data through the R package ‘wdiexplorer’, the work aims to support researchers and policymakers in making better informed, data-based decisions across multiple sectors.

Using causal statistical methods, it shows that women doctors dramatically reduced infant mortality and improved overall health, largely by increasing women’s access to care and boosting healthcare quality.
