This research used large-scale virtual reality experiments and physiological sensing to study pedestrian stress while crossing streets in the presence of autonomous vehicles. After overcoming major technical challenges in ambulatory VR setup design, the project produced a substantial dataset showing how VR can safely simulate risky traffic scenarios and quantify stress responses.
