Biography

Nicholas Simard holds a Ph.D. and M.A.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from McMaster University, specializing in big data analytics and advanced MRI techniques. His research focuses on leveraging large-scale neuroimaging datasets to study brain structure and function across the lifespan, with an emphasis on age- and sex-related variability. He has developed novel methods for improving MRI quality and sensitivity, integrating advanced statistics and machine learning to support precision medicine. Nicholas has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on brain injury and aging in athletes and has joined the IAMLAB at TMU under Dr. Khademi, translating neuroimaging insights into clinically impactful tools.

Multimodal Medical Imaging: Unifying CT and MRI for Stroke Care - Nick Simard

This research combines CT and MRI brain imaging using machine learning to detect stroke risk markers more quickly. By translating fast CT scans into MRI-level insights, clinicians may identify dangerous intraplaque hemorrhages earlier, improving stroke prevention and diagnosis. The multimodal approach could also enhance imaging for neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
