A Fly's Gyroscope: The Haltere - Kristianna Lea

Flies use a gyroscopic organ called the haltere to sense body movement and maintain balance. Research reveals two sensory–motor pathways: linking halteres to legs for posture control and to wings and head for flight adjustments. Rapid mechanosensory feedback allows flies to stabilize and maneuver in milliseconds.
