Biography

MChem Chemistry graduate (First-class Honours) from the University of Warwick with a strong background in polymer chemistry, materials science, and advanced characterisation techniques.

As part of my degree, I completed a 12-month industrial placement at Covestro in the Netherlands, where I gained hands-on experience in polymer synthesis and the structure–property relationships of performance materials. My contributions were recognised with a departmental prize for outstanding performance at Covestro, followed by two further prizes in my final year for an outstanding research project and overall academic excellence.

As of October 2025, I began a PhD at Aston University, focusing on the development of polymer-based systems for drug delivery applications. Specific focus is placed on the replacement of PEG in lipid nanoparticles to reduce accelerated clearance and improve transfection efficiency’s, with aims to target Tuberculosis.

Finding Tuberculosis Where It Hides! - Darren Clarke

This research develops targeted lipid nanoparticle delivery systems to improve tuberculosis treatment and vaccination. By replacing PEG coatings and using mannose to target infected macrophages, it aims to deliver drugs more effectively, reduce treatment duration, improve vaccine performance, and contribute to the global elimination of tuberculosis.
