This research investigates why people switch between devices while shopping online. Surveying 600 U.S. consumers, it finds that users intentionally combine complementary devices, such as laptops and smartphones, to complete different tasks more efficiently. The findings suggest digital devices function as collaborators rather than substitutes in online shopping.
